If you are a cheese lover, then we have got the perfect activity for you! The Western North Carolina Cheese Trail. This area of North Carolina is actually home to several local artisan cheesemakers. If you are looking to try some local cheeses, and do not mind driving a bit through this beautiful area, the Western North Carolina Cheese trail is just for you. There are some cheesemakers that are a little further out, but there are several that are close to Asheville. The trail map shows where all the cheesemakers are located so you can travel to as many as you want and as far as you want. A lot of these places will also do cheese tastings and/or cheese and wine pairing tastings and other fun events.
