It is possible that many of you have seen some fireflies in your lifetime. Those little flying bugs that come out at night and light up, but I bet many people have not seen, or even heard of, the blue ghost fireflies that sometimes roam near Asheville, North Carolina. This rare type of firefly only comes out during late spring time and early summer. What makes these fireflies so special? Their light is blue! It is quite a magical sight to see these blue ghost fireflies, if you happen to be in Asheville late spring or early summer it is worth trying to go and find them. There are tour companies that take guests to see the fireflies, and you can also hike to see them. It is important to be very careful if you are seeking out these fireflies, they are easy to step on and flashlights can disrupt them and therefore it is important to take precautions to avoid this.
