A Harley, My Husband’s Midlife Crisis Answer
July 21, 2014
I was a bit leery of my husband, when he decided he needed to purchase (second hand of course) a motorcycle so he could experience what Western North Carolina had to offer for recreational and avid motorcycle enthusiasts. Since he is only 6 generations from this Asheville/Buncombe County area where he was raised and had his children, he is a walking encyclopedia on off highway and scenic routes for miles from North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and South Carolina. All day trips to relax, regroup and private time.
After research and ‘lady luck’ he found just the motorcycle he wanted. A Harley Sportster 1200 I think a 2007 or 2008. It has a Maroon body and front fender, lots of chrome and noisy. He has added things such as a high back support for me, new tires, louder horn, speedometer, saddle bags, and more. Helmets, leather jackets with protective panels, gloves, Harley boots and more. I have to admit he looks rather sexy in his riding outfits and on the motorcycle.
He is a cautious rider, and prefers the windy off main roads routes. He especially loves to go to Hot Springs for a very short ride. His bother-in-law rides with him and yes, the have ridden the ‘Tail of the Dragon‘ ! As long as the weather is sunny and there is nothing demanding his attention at Applewood Manor Inn, he sets out for an hour or two. He even tries to educate our grandchildren about motorcycle safety for the future.
